Privacy and Confidentiality

During the course of their work, Internal Audit Services staff have access to certain private and/or confidential information.

In order to protect this information, IAS staff complies with applicable Federal and Provincial legislation including, but not limited to, the  Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPP), the Health Information Act (HIA), the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

IAS also complies with relevant University policies and regulations, including the 
University of Alberta Web Privacy Statement.

Further, disclosure of possible fraud and other matters is frequently made in confidence. Internal Audit Services staff will take all reasonable steps to ensure that the identity of those raising allegations, and of those against whom such allegations are made, is kept confidential.  Confidentiality, however, may be subject to the provisions of legislation such as noted above.

 

 

 

IAS works closely with the Office of Safe Disclosure.  Therefore, should staff feel more comfortable dealing with that office, they should feel free to do so.
